Photo Shoot at National Museum of Women in the Arts

I was so excited to be asked to participate in the photo shoot we did a few weeks ago at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (for Katie's of Elegance & Simplicity upcoming book). After the behind-the-scenes post from awhile back, I thought I would show off some of the images. The bouquets were by Elegance and Simplicity and the photography was by Documentary Associates. The gowns, of course, were from Promise!

New L'ezu Atelier Gown at Promise!

Oh.
You have NO idea how long we have waited for this L'ezu Atelier gown. We saw it at Fall Market and fell in love. The pintucked organza, mushroom pleated skirt, Alencon Lace....oh swoon! The super sophisticated mermaid shape and special detail had us at hello.
Needless to say, we had style 1330 (ugly name - beautiful gown) whipped out of the box and on my mom (I WISH I was as tall and model-like) in like five seconds.

Promise Goes to a Photo Shoot at National Museum of Women in the Arts
Katie, owner of Elegance and Simplicity (wedding planning, flowers, and more) in Bethesda is writing a book!
If I told you what it is about, I would have to make threats so you wouldn't tell! It's kind of a secret. So, instead, I will just say it
is going to be a great book on a subject near and dear to Promise's (and my) heart!
Katie asked Promise to provide gowns specific to her topic for the photo shoot for her book. How exciting is that!? So on Sunday, Tom and Ashlee from Documentary Associates (photographers and excellent photojournalism for your wedding), Katie (who not only wrote the book but also did all the flowers), and myself all headed down to The National Museum of Women in the Arts for the day. ALL day.
But it was fun! I won't have any of the wonderful images Tom and Ashlee took for a little while, so for now you will have our "behind the scenes" pics. That's me in the goofy blue panda t-shirt. So glamorous the life of a bridal shop owner!
Note the crazy orange clips in the back of every gown - perfect for brides-to-be who try on gowns at Promise and for photo shoots! Orange clips make everything look great...from the front!
Stay tuned for more about Katie's book, and for more images from Docum
entary Associates!

L'ezu Atelier Trunk Show November 14th & 15th!

Beverly Hills-based L'ezu Atelier, known for their elegant, timeless gowns and fabulous fit, is having a Trunk Show at Promise on Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th!
Their newest 2009 collection is awash with romantic, feminine details and a dash of glamor (we've added some images from the new collection). We are in love with all of the details - handmade fabric flowers, lace, pleating, and modern silhouettes.
Don't forget, L'ezu is among the group of "green" designers Promise carries! L'ezu manufactures their gowns in Los Angeles, supporting local sewing talent (and the local economy) and reducing their carbon footprint by keeping production and shipping based in the US.
Remember, the L'ezu Atelier Trunk Show is by appointment. If your choose your gown during the weekend, you will receive 10% off, so be sure to bring the ladies whose opinions matter most!
Call 301-215-9232 to schedule your appointment.

Spring 2009 Bridal Market!
Every year, one weekend in mid-October is like a national holiday for all of us at Promise! It's Bridal Market! Held in NYC in showrooms and luxury hotel suites, bridal designers show their newest collections to bridal shops (ranging from boutiques like Promise to institutions like Kleinfeld). The downer is that all the fabulous styles won't come to our shops until later winter/early spring...but that is far outweighed by all the loveliness we are able to see now.
We saw tailored sophistication at L'ezu Atelier, inspired, edgy romance at Claire Pettibone, dreamy, soft elegance at Lea Ann Belter, and stunning, feminine gowns at Elizabeth Fillmore. We also saw some new designers we are thinking of adding to our carefully edited collection, but we are still deliberating, so stay tuned!
We will post images of our favorites from the collections soon; for now, here is a recap:
As usual, the gowns at L'ezu were perfectly constructed and elegant, but, this season, some of them have a new and luxe twist! Some L'ezu gowns are adorned with...diamonds! Lovely, sparkly jewels that you can remove from your gown post-wedding and have made into jewelry to wear after the wedding (Angelina, their model looks stellar in one of Patty & Corrina's designs).
On our way to see Lea Ann Belter, since we were shopping for wedding gowns and since, of course, there is no wedding without love, Kori and Tania had to pause!
At Lea Ann Belter, Lea Ann and Karen (and her wonderful model Pearl) showcased Lea Ann's collection, which was filled with touches of lace, organza, and real freshwater pearls! Like L'ezu, the pearls can be removed afer the wedding for jewelry.
We thought the idea of precious jewels on gowns was so romantic! We were all ready to swoon - who doesn't love versatility in their wedding gown?!?!
At the Claire Pettibone Show at the Bowery Hotel, my mom (and partner, Juliana) and I were totally in love with the collection - this season, Claire's theme was "Rock and Roll Bride." While the collection was all Claire Pettibone, with layers of lace and softness, there was definitely spice and sass in each gown that strutted down the runway.
We were all breathlessly anticipating viewing Elizabeth Fillmore's collection - and not just because it was our last appointment! We were enraptured by her divine fabrics, laces, and perfect combination of modern, graceful, and enchanting gowns. We were so taken with each gown we saw, we were all reduced to "Oh! That is GORGEOUS!" as a nevere
nding refrain.
Of course, no visit to New York Bridal Market is complete without dinner with our friends from Alexia's Bridal Boutique in Carey, NC. Alexia and I both opened our shops around the same time, and since then have been eating delicious dinners together in New York every year! This year, we went to Bar Americain (one of Bobby Flay's restaurants). It was excellent - if you go, try the Cioppino, it will make you weep.
After more shows on Monday, we dragged ourselves to the train station and back to DC!

The newest gown to arrive at Promise is from L'ezu Atelier. L'ezu gowns not only are chic and modern, but they also are incredibly constructed - ensuring a divine fit, and that you look wonderful!
Our newest gown (style 1336) is super elegant! Cut in a sumptuous silk satin and finished with subtle details, our newest L'ezu is now our favorite! Fabulous crisp asymmetrical draping on the bodice adds to the sophistication, while buttons in the back and an inverted
pleat on the train make for an understated but breathtaking exit!

Promise Newlywed Spotlight - Neda & Anis!
Neda & Anis are married!
Neda and Anis got married September 22, and we are so excited to get the pictures!
Neda and Anis were married at the Strathmore Music Center - it is such a gorgeous setting with so much light! We loved the colors she chose for her flowers (done by Katy Greene-Davis in Baltimore), and her cake (by Patisserie Poupon in Baltimore) looks wonderful!
Neda's photographer, Freed Photography in Bethesda, did a stellar job capturing all the wonderful details and moments of her wedding day!

If you're wondering who made the lovely Neda even more so on her wedding day, visit Nader at Nader Salon in Bethesda (he took care of her hair) and Amanda Dureza (she did her makeup).
It was so wonderful to see the pictures of Neda's wedding day and how happy she and Anis were and are together!
Best wishes!
- Kori, Tania, Jessica, Juliana & Lana

L'ezu Atelier Fall 2008 Collection
L'ezu Atelier, based in Beverly Hills, CA, is one of the first designers Promise...for the savvy bride carried when we opened in 2004!
Designers Patricia Nevil and Corina Lewinzon draw a lot of inspiration for their collections from 18th and 19th century patterns and fabrics - then give them a modern twist. The results are gowns with incredible fit and construction, with elegant, clean lines.
This season, L'ezu created gowns with wonderful textures - unusual lace, deconstructed organza, and corseted seam work. All of those gowns, of course, have the trademark sophistication and understated sexiness of L'ezu!
Of course, the collection will not be at Promise for a few months, but if you would like to see one, just call 301-215-9232, and we will do our best to arrange it!

L'ezu Atelier 1111 on Sample Sale!

As promised, we will be previewing several of our Sample Sale gowns on the Promise...for the savvy bride blog!
First up is the lovely style 1111 (sorry, no elegant name!) by L'ezu Atelier!
With a silk satin-faced organza underlay and hand embroidered and beaded silk organza overlay, this L'ezu gown is flowy and airy. The beadwork is delicate and light, with a motif that is reminiscent of growing vines spreading down the bodice and into the skirt, trailing into accents on the front hem and train. Complementing the natural and elegant feel, the gown itself is a delicate ivory. It is strapless with a narrow A-line skirt and chapel length train. The beaded silk organza overlay is cut a little bit bigger than the satin-faced organza underlay to allow for wonderful movement of the skirt when you walk down the aisle!
Originally $3900, it is on sale at Promise for $1950!
Call 301-215-9232 to schedule your appointment and check out our Online Sample Sale Gallery to see more!
