Happy Friday Garter Giveaway!

Trousseau? That is so old school...

As I was reading the February issue of Vanity Fair (next to The New Yorker, my favorite magazine!), at the way bottom corner of one page I saw "Wedding Belles". Well, of course I had to stop flipping to the article I was honing in on!

The classic, super luxurious French linen line, D. Porthault, (there is absolutely NOTHING as wonderful as really, really nice sheets. Really. Getting to your Destination...Wedding!

Planning a destination wedding? Or maybe the piece de resistance .... your honeymoon?

There is some super cute (and functional) travel stuff out there! I love the travel site Flight 001 - so I thought I would spread the word!

If there was one thing I learned on our honeymoon in Italy, it was that my two giant, rolling (but super cute) suitcases were maybe not so much the right thing to schlep into Venice. I would have been much better off with one, especially one that could double as a backpack! The Y3 Backpack Trolley (had I known about Flight 001) would have been perfect!

I'll never forget how exhausted we were when we landed in London - partially because of the long flight on Virgin Atlantic playing Super Mario Brothers, and also from the wedding! The Red Eye Pack with eye mask, lip balm, earplugs, and dental refresher would have gone a long way in making me feel a little better.

I would have loved a cool passport holder - maybe we would have done a better job not leaving our passports in a taxi in Florence if I was worried about my sassy case!

Your sweetie may need a cuter duffel to travel with (maybe it's time to graduate from his old gym bag like mine), you could surprise him with some cool luggage.

If you decide to carry your gown on instead of shipping (which Promise is glad to do - just ask!) you could score a cool rolling garment bag to bring your dress on board with you (like the black one below).

Fabulous Broaches in Eastern Market!

On Sunday, my husband and I went to Eastern Market (yummy Market Lunch!). Eastern Market is one of our favorite places to suggest to Promise brides-to-be to check out the various local vendors for unique and well-priced wedding accesories. There are inexpensive pashminas galore (an excellent and reusable bridesmaid gift), as well as local artisans with wonderful gift items, a great farmers market, and lot more!

So as we were passing through, a table of sparkle and color drew me like a moth to a flame and I met Ms. Mavis Jackson! She has a table at the intersection of C Street and North Carolina Avenue, directly across from the alley. She has an extensive, unique, and lovely array of broaches! I saw many that would be the perfect accent to a bridal gown, and several that would be a great touch for bridesmaids dresses. Not to mention they would all make a wonderful gift!

Her prices were excellent (and she was flexible when I couldn't help myself from purchasing more than one).

So scoot down there and support local businesses, pick yourself up some great broaches from Mrs. Jackson, and have lunch with your sweetie (get the crab cake sandwich)!

Wedding Gown as Art!

When I got married, I remember feeling so beautiful and fabulous. I loved my gown with its pintuck ruffle at the hem and awesome magenta sash. It was such a wonderful, exciting whirlwind day. I also loved my photographer (Rodney Bailey) and all of the incredible images he and his colleague Gary took of me in my gown. However, how cool would it be to have a fashion sketch of you in your gown??

All About the Dress captures the feelings I had about my gown on my wedding day. I wish I had known about this when I got married! What an awesome wedding gift that would have been to myself!! Or to hint (not so subtly) to anyone who would listen? Its $425 for each image - and it is definitely something you would keep around.
